Claudia's work focuses on identifying and characterising pore fluids and deep groundwater in sedimentary basins, and the effects of fluid mobilization in the subsurface, using geophysical and geological data. The main aims are to understand the mechanisms that allow the emplacement and expulsion of these fluids in sediments, e.g. tectonics and climate changes, and the distribution of deep and offshore aquifers as unconventional water resources. She also investigates ‘salt giants’ basins such as the Mediterranean Messinian Salinity Crisis, and an important part of her work is dedicated to understanding global mechanism leading to their formation and demise through Earth’s history.
