Katrin is an expert in marine electromagnetic methods and holds a diploma in geophysics from the Technical University in Berlin (1997) and a PhD from the Free University in Berlin/ GFZ-Potsdam (2000). She spent a 4.5 year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada. Since 2005 she holds a permanent position at BGR where she established a marine electromagnetic working group, developing unique instrumentation to study marine resources such as gas hydrates , offshore groundwater, and seafloor massive sulfides. Katrin joined about 20 marine research cruises as lead scientist for EM methods and participated in groundwater studies offshore New Zealand and Malta.
